Descendants theory: Teaser-Trailer analysis

This week we finally had some new footage from Descendants 3 to uncover the plot from, let's dive right in.

The new trailer/teaser opens with the sight of Auradons Museum of Cultural History, which we haven't seen since the first Descendants movie. Nothing much here, but I think the fight we'll later see happens here, surrounded by magical artifacts from past fights. Very symbolic.

We then see a crown. Blue and gold, it's probably a crown now in the museum that Mal will wear when she becomes Queen Maleficent Bertha of Auradon.

Now we turn to see our four main VK's (Mal, Jay, Carlos and Evie) on their motors of to the ocean. At first I thought this went along with the plot of them going to the Isle to get more children to Auradon Prep, but we don't see the Isle anywhere. And with that lush tree, straight path and green grass I'd say they are in Auradon, but where are they going.

Next picture is Mal turning a key, shaped like a skeleton to some sort of cave.
It opens, and both Mal and Celia (I guess they're allies?) walk in. The skeleton key and picture of Cerberus say this is clearly a gate to the Underworld or at the very least Hades's hideout where Mal and Celia enter. My guess is Mal didn't know where it was and needed Celia to show her.

Next thing we see is Hades boots, looking like he has just broken free. My guess is he was imprisoned by Maleficent Sr. (see my last Descendants theory post for this full theory) and Celia and Mal have accidentally set him free.

Next there is Mal, Evie, and someone else hiding behind a tree with Ben, who seems to be mid-transformation into a Beast. I think Dr. Facilier has got something to do with it.

The morning after, Ben has fully changed into a Beast and is seen by Carlos, Gil, Jay and Evie. Somehow, the situation unified them. Don't know how but my guess is either Hades or Dr. Facilier, probably the former, attacks Auradon and the Isle and Uma and Mal team up their forces to protect both.

We see all of them fighting together some sort of knight army, maybe awakened by Dr. Facilier in the museum or Auradon Cathedral. I did spot a stained glass picture of Li Shang and Mulan in the background, which is a nice reference to Lonnie, who doesn't make an appearence in the third installment of the series.

By far my favorite picture is Evie mid-song on the Isle. She is clearly beloved there and followed by Dizzy, as we can spot an Evie poster and sign saying "Evie's Alley" which we saw in the first picture of Descendants 3.

Like many villains, Dr. Facilier apparently has a shop. Dr. Facilier's Voodoo Arcade is a location on the Isle that I think Mal will visit, looking for Celia who'll bring her to Hades's cave. I see Celia coming in through the entrance and I also think I see Dr. Facilier in the bottom.

Next is a picture of the mysterious cottage we've seen that might be Fairy Godmothers, Jane's or really belonging to anyone.

I do think Audrey is possesed by Maleficent or just playing her while going to the cottage to say a curse. D3 is called "The Big Sleep" after all which gives major Maleficent curse vibes.

Now, there are a lot of pictures of characters coming by which I skipped but this one I thought was interesting. Uma is holding some kind of stone, probably magic and belonging to Hades, since it's his signature color. It also looks like it could belong to the crown we saw earlier. If Mals crown is cursed by Hades, this is quite the important picture.

Also during the fight scene, we quickly can spot Hades. Now at first I thought he was casting a spell commanding the knights attacking the AK's and VK's but now I think I can spot a chain between his legs and this is the state he is in in prison before Celia and Mal set him free by accident.

That's all. I was disappointed not to see Doug, Jane, Queen Leah, Belle, Adam, Lady Tremaine, Audrey (as Audrey), Chad or Mr. Smee though they're all credited. Then again, it is thirty seconds they have and a lot of characters.

Descendants Theory: Can Hades be Mals father?

I know it's been a while, but here I am: back with more Descendants theories. This is a popular one, I have personally come to believe. It's a theory describing how Hades can be Mals biological father.

Just the other day, we finally got a picture of Cheyenne Jackson in his costume:

It's nice to see he got an update from his original costume in Hercules, unlike most villains who almost exactly wear what they wore in their original movies.

Image result for descendants 3 logoThe theory of Mals father appearing in D3 has been hanging around since Disney released a video almost exactly one year ago, in which Mal responds: "Dad?" to a mysterious blue fire.

The blue fire reappears on the D3 logo:

So the appearence of Mals father, having to do with blue fire, is a big deal in Descendants 3.

A couple of new vilains are set to appear: Lady Tremaine, Mr. Smee, Dr. Facilier and...Hades.

Blue fire is Hades's trademark but him being Mals father contradicts the books greatly: in the books it is stated Maleficent Sr. told her daughter how her father was a weak little human, and she shouldn't be like him.

But this is never stated to be the truth: it is simply said this is Maleficent Sr.'s explanation.

What if, seventeen years ago, the Mistress of all Evil and the God of the Underworld found each other on the Isle of the Lost and fell in love for a year or so. They had a child together, a daughter. But there was a prophecy by the Fates: one day Hades would battle his child and lose, for the child was more powerful than him, being a demigod as well as a fairy.
He had taken the last mortal potion of the Underworld, the one he had used to make Hercules mortal. Maleficent stopped him mid-way however, and banned him to the other side of the Isle.

Maleficent would always be disappointed in her mortal daughter. She was half-human, just not because of genes. Maybe Hades hasn't appeared in the Descendants movies so far or actively in the books because he was scared of Maleficent, but now that she's a lizard and Mal has proven herself not to be as cruel and evil as her mother, he dares taking a stand, with his son Hadie.

In Descendants 3, we see a battle scene between the VK's and Hades. Was this the battle Hades tried to avoid? We shall see...

Descendants theory: Who is Mal's father

Descendants is my favorite movie. But something bugged me: Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos all miss one parent and it's not explained if they ...
