I just watched Descendants 3, the final Descendants movie. Many would assume this would mean the end of my blog and movie, but come on: you didn't think this was the end of my theories, did you?
For non-Potterheads out there a Horcrux is a part of your soul you split from yourself and put in an object. You can do this by killing somebody. What is Maleficent's Horcrux?
HER SCEPTER!
I thought this for a while, mostly because Maleficent, in my view, never really died.
You probably wonder: what? She clearly died in "Sleeping Beauty" right?
Think again:
She was stabbed by the sword of truth, at the hands of Prince Philip and fell off a cliff (like her friend EQ). We then see a purple and black smoke instead of her body, neither in human or dragon form. Maleficent in the Descendants books says the next thing she remembers is waking up at the Isle of the Lost. She is never stated to be one of the villains brought back from the dead.
But I have more. I believe part of Maleficent's soul is in her scepter. When Jane breaks the barrier in D1 (remember those 2015 days?) Maleficent just says: "Scepter, now!" and it responds by going to her. We know that she can't do magic without her scepter so the only way to explain this is it's connected to her.
Also, we know the souls (or part of souls???) in Horcruxes can be persuasive and even take over people's bodies, like Tom Riddle does with Ginny Weasley when she opens his horcrux diary.
Now, look at this:
In "Sleeping Beauty" Aurora gets pulled by Maleficent's scepter which transforms itself in a green light. It forces Aurora to move to the highest tower and prick her finger on a spinning wheel. She is almost hypnotized by this part of Maleficent.
The same seems to be happening in Descendants 3. While Audrey is in the museum stealing the crown, Maleficent's scepter calls her name and she sings:
Something's pulling me, it's so magnetic. My body's moving. I'm sure where I'm headed.
It seems to me Audrey, like her mother, is being controlled by Maleficent's soul. When she touches the staff instead of falling asleep for 1000 years, what would have happened to others, she seems to let Maleficent's soul control her body, transforming her.
Her pink and blue hair turns purple like Mal's (and supposedly Maleficent's), she gains a cape like Maleficent and she wears a necklace that first resembled a blue and pink bird now resembles a dark bird or dragon.
Perhaps Maleficent created a horcrux a long time ago and I have an idea about who she killed:
DR. FACILIER!!!!
Okay, in short my theory:
Maleficent fears she will die and so decides to make a horcrux by killing young dr. Facilier. He makes a deal with the People on the Other Side however (Hades), and is returned to life to make the Other Side rich. He fails however when he loses his amulet, blablabla (Princess and the Frog)
Maleficent uses this to insert part of her soul in her scepter. She uses this to make Aurora do her bidding and prick her finger. It also protects her when Philip tries to kill her but part of her survives.
(Descendants occurs) Maleficent is defeated and reduced to a lizard but her soul inside her scepter is still there. It awakens when Audrey is near and takes control of her until she is defeated by Hades' ember and Mal.
